Our Patient Philosophy

Healthy eyesight is a basic need, essential to perform some of the most ordinary functions in daily life. With poor eyesight, children’s academic performance is hindered, and adults are far less effective in their jobs or become unemployed. Giving the Gift of Sight is what inspires the Clinic’s leadership team.

We give the Gift of Sight to children, families and mature adults in need. We help prevent blindness by providing exemplary state-of-the-art care including comprehensive eye exams and medical and surgical treatment of eye disease. Services are provided free of charge to qualified individuals.

WHO WE SERVE

The Clinic offers free eye care to patients in Florida who are underserved, do not have medical insurance, and meet the qualifying guidelines. All families, children and adults with income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines are qualified to receive services from the Clinic.

Patient Stories

Seeing the World Clearly: Damian’s Story
Eight-year-old Damian Cardoza from Collier County faced early challenges with persistent amblyopia and astigmatism in his right eye, affecting his vision, school performance, and daily life.

At the Florida Lions Eye Clinic, Dr. Berry and Dr. Freedman developed a personalized treatment plan involving Atropine drops to strengthen his weaker eye. Under their expert care, Damian’s condition improved significantly, stabilizing to mild hyperopic astigmatism. He now enjoys clear vision at near and distant ranges, allowing him to thrive in school, build friendships, and embrace life’s possibilities.

Damian’s success is a testament to the life-changing impact of the Florida Lions Eye Clinic and the generous support of donors like you. Together, we’re creating brighter futures, one clear vision at a time.

Thriving with Focus: Carlos’s Story
Carlos Navarro, a young boy with Down syndrome, faced significant challenges due to nystagmus, a condition causing uncontrollable eye movement. This affected his ability to focus, making schoolwork and sports a struggle and impacting his quality of life.

Seeking help, Carlos’s family turned to the Florida Lions Eye Clinic, where Dr. Baker, a skilled pediatric ophthalmologist, diagnosed his condition and prescribed special glasses to improve his vision. The results were immediate and life-changing. Carlos’s academic performance soared, and he found new joy in playing baseball and other sports that once seemed out of reach.

Thanks to the expert care of Dr. Baker and the FLLEC team, Carlos now thrives in school and on the field, embodying the clinic’s mission to transform lives through better vision.

Restoring Sight, Transforming Lives: Jose’s Journey with FLLEC

Jose Fuentes came to the clinic struggling with cataracts in both eyes. His vision was so impaired that he couldn’t work or even clearly see his family’s faces. At FLLEC, Dr. Berry and Dr. Miller assessed his condition and recommended cataract surgery to restore his sight. Dr. Croley performed the surgeries, and at his follow-up visit, Jose shared his excitement about being able to read fine print, work efficiently, and see his loved ones clearly. He’s deeply grateful for the life-changing care provided by the FLLEC team. This is just one example of the incredible impact FLLEC has on lives every day.
